Before you book an appointment with me
Your fertility is complex and sometimes it may feel like it’s out of your control, but seeking a specialist opinion is the first step towards taking action and working out what’s preventing you from starting your family.
Before you arrange an appointment with me, you will need a doctor’s referral. If you are covered by Medicare, this is important because without a referral you will not be able to claim the Medicare rebate. GP referrals are valid for 12 months, and referrals from specialists are valid for three months.
A referral from your GP whether you are eligible for Medicare or not a referral from your is an important first step.
When you ask for a referral, you can also have your GP arrange pre-pregnancy testing you you and your partner. These are required for anyone seeking fertility treatment and there are tests for women and men. You can see a checklist here. Please ask your GP to include the results of these along with your referral.
Pregnant women also need to have regular check-ups, so if you are young and have not visited a GP regularly in the past, now is a good time to find a doctor you trust and feel comfortable with.
